Best in Wichita Metro Burger Challenge 2022: How does Oasis Lounge rate?

Oasis Lounge

By Mike Thayer

I've been traveling around the Wichita Metro, sampling the burger offerings from any joint that has burgers on the menu, local, regional, national chain, it doesn't matter. In order to determine a true champion of burgers in the metro, I'm on a mission to sample them all in the name of "burger science" (cough).  For the burger criteria, click here.

Oasis Lounge "O" Burger with bacon
Good looking basket, but check out all the bacon NOT on the burger... A missed opportunity for bacon in every bite.

For today's Happy Monday burger lunch I traveled to the Oasis Lounge.  I've never visited this place before, but I've been told their original "O" Burger is a must try.  In the past, USA Today named the "O" Burger as a Top 10 burger of choice.

Strolling in at about 11:30am, I found a seat at the bar where Ashley the bartender greeted me, asked me what I wanted to drink and if I needed a menu.   After serving me up a cold bottle of Miller Lite, Ashley took my lunch order, the original "O" Burger that comes dressed with ketchup, mustard, pickle, onion and lettuce.  I added cheddar cheese and bacon to make it Burger Challenge legit.

The one time I don't double-check my pics for blur...

Passing time watching ESPN and texting, my burger arrived, a good looking basket.  Oasis presents the "O" Burger cut in half, which makes for an easier eat.  In taking that first bite, the tenderness of the beef was remarkable, it was a 'fluffy' burger patty and juicy.  Unfortunately, it was unevenly seasoned.  Some bites were under seasoned and bland, other bites were nice and savory.  The bacon was crispy and flavorful, but too much of it was off the burger rather than on it, so I didn't get bacon in every bite.  There was good coverage with the lettuce, I got onion in every bite and the mustard and pickles provided some nice tart contrast to balance out the beef, bacon and cheese, but the bun wasn't anything special and lacked a decent toast.

Side Note:  While a generous portion of natural cut fries, they're weren't seasoned all that well and lacked that light, crisp exterior.  After sampling a few, I wished I had ordered the chips instead.

Oasis Lounge "O" Burger
A second blurry pic, ooops!  Tender, juicy burger patty, but unevenly seasoned.  It was like day and night, one half was good, the other half, bland.

Costing me $13.42 for the burger and fries, the Oasis Lounge "O" Burger scored a 55 out of 63 possible points, earning it 4 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.  A reasonably priced bar & grill burger, this is a good burger, but not great and it's not a repeat buy because there are better burgers to be eaten in the ICT.  I'm not sure how long ago USA Today named the "O" Burger a Top 10 worthy burger, I don't see it.

4 stars

Located at 4121 W Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209, the service provided by Ashley was excellent.  Oasis opens at 6am for breakfast and they know how to treat their customers right!  It was interesting to watch Ashley and a guy I think was a beer vendor/distributor ensure there was enough beer on hand for tonight's Monday Night Football game AND the Thursday Night game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.  I'll be at my home bar for that one.
