Cold cereal for breakfast? Pppppffffffffttttttt....
A smoothie? Tasty, but I need to have some texture in my breakfast and a smoothie can't deliver that.
Hello hot breakfast of meat, cheese and egg on a bun, the best kind of breakfast!
On this day for my first meal, I went with a Wendy's Breakfast Baconator, a beast of a breakfast sandwich.
Here's the description from the Wendy's website: Grilled sausage, American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, a fresh-cracked free range egg, (deep breath) more cheese and more bacon all covered in our signature cheese sauce.
I was looking forward to this, I've had many a sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches, as well as bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, but never, both bacon and sausage under the same lid.
It's a burger concept, everybody loves a bacon cheeseburger, so why not apply it to a breakfast sandwich, right?
While a nice concept, it doesn't play out to a WOW breakfast sandwich. What bacon does for a cheeseburger, is too much for a breakfast sandwich, there's too much protein here and it overpowers the egg. The sandwich has a good visual appeal with an awesome meat to bun ratio, the sausage is seasoned well with some nice peppery notes and the portion of bacon is generous, delivering that hint of smoke. The cheese, well there's a generous portion of that too but it's more of a creamy goo that holds things together rather than adding another layer of flavor. Oh, and then there's the egg, which was curiously not prepared as a scramble, it's thin and gets completely lost in the sandwich. A creamy, fluffy egg is what truly makes a breakfast sandwich a breakfast sandwich and it's not highlighted here, not even close! I was disappointed in the Breakfast Baconator.
Costing me a bit over $7 for the combo to include those potatoes that don't belong on the menu and an orange juice, I'm giving the Wendy's Breakfast Baconator 2 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. It's a bit on the high end in price for a fast food combo breakfast and Wendy's has tried too hard to be over the top, this sandwich is a beast, but forgets about highlighting the egg and is NOT worthy of a repeat buy.
I wholeheartedly disagree. I think the cheese sauce is actually too much. the bacon on top the egg in the middle and the sausage on the bottom are a protein lovers dream. I eat these without the bun and have them wrap it in lettuce. Very few fast food places have breakfast choices that can actually satisfy an appetite. This coupled with their crispy hot potatoes are a stark departure from a typical Fast food breakfast. I actually found myself enjoying this. I am Vehemently against fast food aside of a McDonald’s Diet Coke And fries. I always feel like I need real food. The breakfast baconator actually “hits the spot”
