Rating Fish Sandwiches - Where does McDonald's rank?

Eating fish sandwiches on a daily basis for lunch and dinner... You know I'm doing this Challenge in the name of 'Food Science' (cough), right? I'm eating through the bad and average sandwiches so you don't have to...
In 2018 I reviewed the fish sandwiches from national fast food chains but I figured it's time for a fish sandwich update. I'll be reviewing all those restaurants again, as there's been some changes, some 'new and improved' sandwiches as well as new offerings. But for this 2022 review, along with the fast food joints I'll be including fast casual chains as well as the local restaurants, making it a "Who makes the best fish sandwich in Wichita?" Challenge!
Today I traveled to McDonald's to pick up a Filet-O-Fish. I wasn't looking forward to it because having a few of these in the past, I already know it's not going to be a great fish sandwich... Again, done in the name of 'Food Science' (cough).
McDonald's ranked #7 back in the 2018 Fish Sandwich review, 7th place out of 9 restaurants sampled.
Here's the description from the McDonald's website: Dive into our wild-caught Filet-O-Fish®! This McDonald’s fish sandwich has fish sourced from sustainably managed fisheries, on melty American cheese and topped with creamy McDonald’s tartar sauce, all served on a soft, steamed bun.
The steamed bun is nice, in fact it's probably the nicest thing about this sandwich. This is a change from 2018 when the fish was served on a toasted bun. Moving on... Based on previous sampling, the Filet-O-Fish 'lived up' to expectations, as in being a less-than-stellar fish sandwich and on the bottom rungs of the fish sandwich ladder. The breading on the processed fish didn't bring any crunch whatsoever, it's like they steamed the fish along with the bun. The filet was under seasoned and the fish to bun ratio was off. The creamy tartar is good although I didn't get tartar in every bite. The cheese I can do without, I've never understood the McDonald's infatuation with putting a slice of cheese on a piece of fish. About that cheese, is it an inflation thing or is McDonald's actually scaling back based on customer feedback? That cheese slice has gotten smaller, for those of you who like that cheese on the fish, you don't get cheese in every bite, it doesn't cover the filet.
Scoring 39 out of a possible 63 points and costing me $8.05 for a value meal to include fries and a drink, I'm giving the McDonald's Filet-O-Fish 3 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. This is a below average fish sandwich and is NOT worthy of a repeat buy. Of the sandwiches sampled so far, this one has the lowest score.
The McDonald's visited on this occasion is located at 1219 S Rock Rd, Wichita, KS 67207. Hitting the drive through at about 11:30am, there were two cars ahead of me but service was friendly and pretty quick. After ordering, I received my Value Meal in about 3 minutes.
