Food Review: Red Robin's Cheesy Bacon Fondue Burger

By Mike Thayer

Red Robin Cheesy Bacon Fondue Burger
Nice presentation

On another road trip and needing some lunch, I popped into a Red Robin for a bite.  I haven't been to a Red Robin for quite some time and appreciate their burgers, so I was overdue for a visit.

Seated right away by the hostess and greeted almost immediately by the waitress, she placed the menu in front of me and took my drink order. Also served, a complimentary side of fries and two dipping sauces.

It took me two seconds to figure out what I wanted, it was right there big and bold at the top, front of the menu...  A Cheesy Bacon Fondue Burger!  What!?  A burger and fondue put together?!  I HAD to try it!

What's NOT to like in a fire-grilled all beef burger topped with American cheese, hardwood-smoked bacon and mayo on a toasted brioche bun AND served with a side of cheesy bacon fondue for dipping and steak fries?

Here's the description from the Red Robin website:  The limited time Red Robin Cheese Lovers Lineup brings no limits when it comes to fulfilling your cheesy desires. Leading the pack is the new Cheesy Bacon Fondue Burger – built specifically for dunking in our Cheesy Bacon Fondue made from a blend of five different cheeses. Served with Bottomless Steak Fries® – any lingering fondue won’t stand a chance.

You can also customize the burger a bit, you don't have to get American cheese on your burger, you can go cheddar, pepper jack, provolone or Swiss.  I went with the cheddar.

Bacon Cheeseburger
Prepared to order, bacon in every bite

My made to order burger was cheesy good!  I took my first bite, resisting the temptation to dip it into that cheesy bacon fondue.  I wanted to taste this burger on it's own and it was excellent without the dipping.  The burger patty was perfectly prepared, seasoned well, moist and juicy.  The cheddar cheese was melted nicely, the bacon was crisp and provided that slight hint of smoke you're looking for and bringing everything together was that mayo and toasted brioche bun.  The second bite included the fondue and wow did it kick things up a notch!  Cheesy heaven!  That blend of cheeses is well balanced and gives you that "ooey-gooey" cheesy good experience.  The fondue was fantastic on both the burger and the steak fries!

Costing me $14.29 for the burger and 'bottomless' steak fries (I couldn't finish the original serving - too full!) I'm giving the Red Robin Cheesy Bacon Fondue Burger 5 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.  It's a pricey burger but a very good burger, with high quality ingredients and it was prepared with care.  It's a cheesy goodness repeat buy but remember, it's a limited time item!

The Red Robin visited on this occasion is located at 20155 W 153rd St, Olathe, KS 66061.  The whole Red Robin dining experience was great, from the minute walking in the door and being greeted warmly, to being  seated right away during a busy lunch hour, to a friendly waitress, the complimentary 'snack' of fries and two dipping sauces and then...  the fantastic meal in that Cheesy Bacon Fondue Burger!  Thanks Red Robin!
